The Adams Remco Story
Rex Carlile began his career in the office automation industry as a service technician in the Indianapolis office of typewriter company Remington Rand, a company tracing its roots back to 1945. After quickly establishing a reputation as a hard worker willing to put in whatever extra time was necessary, he was encouraged to move into sales where he really found his niche. With a desire to eventually move into management, he was given the opportunity to relocate to South Bend, IN in the fall of 1968 and join their sales team. His career would soon take another turn.
While Carlile personally thrived in his new role, business for Remington Rand struggled nationally and Carlile was soon given the opportunity to purchase the South Bend office, and he jumped, changing the name to Remco Office Systems. Several years later with the purchase of another Remington Rand office from Adams Typewriters, Adams Remco was on the map!
The next few years under Rex’s direction brought continued growth with the purchase of Remington Rand offices in Fort Wayne, Lafayette, and Indianapolis, Indiana. Then, on an early Thursday morning in 1993, Carlile finally received the Florida opportunity he and his wife had dreamt of 30 years prior. Savin Board Member Max Davis, of Max Davis Associates, phoned Carlile to sell him M.D.A., located throughout the state of Florida. Carlile quickly accepted, booked a flight, and had the Max Davis Associates office in Jacksonville up and running under new ownership by the following Monday.
The year 1993 brought further change to Adams Remco with a second-generation taking the helm, as Don Carlile was named president, a position he continues to hold today. Under Don’s guidance, A.R.I. has grown to 11 offices and services 12 different locations throughout Indiana, Michigan, and Florida in addition to Adams Remco Professional Services (originally Pixel Creek Technologies), a technology services company.
While the occasional typewriter repair is still requested, Adams Remco now specializes in today’s most innovative office technologies, including Digital Signage, Production Print, Electronic Document Management (EDM), and a variety of IT and managed services.
